This icon represents Our Lady of Czestochowa, the so-called “Black Madonna” of Poland. Four 20th-century Polish saints are depicted in the wings. The painting is in egg-tempera on African Mahogany with a natural gesso ground. The crown contains numerous hand-shaped agate stones from Minnesota as well as Swarovski crystals. The stars (representing the perpetual virginity of Mary), are made from hand-shaped mother-of pearl. The tooled gold is 24 karats.
