"Love - Pure and Simple"
In the preface to the Acts of the Apostles, Luke writes that Jesus “presented himself alive after his passion by many proofs, appearing to them during forty days.” (Acts 1, 3). That first paschal season was a privileged time for the early Church. Jesus let himself be encountered in an overwhelming manner by his disciples. These appearances were so many proofs of his love for those who believe in him – who follow him in faith.
Jesus continues to show himself to his Church, that is to us, we who are disciples in our own present times. He goes out to meet us in all the ordinary events of our day. Jesus wants us to find him. In order to discover our risen Lord, we must search with simple and pure love.
It is easy to miss him because we make things so complicated or look beyond the ordinary and hope for the extraordinary. The Lord is in your daily chores, you can find him in your own home, in the midst of the bustle of the workplace, revealed in the simple joys that are passed by because we are moving too quickly to enjoy the little things. You will find him in the random encounters that happen with the people who fill your life. The Risen One is waiting for you in a tabernacle in the quiet of the Church. If you go looking you will find Jesus everywhere. You will discover so many proofs of his love for you.
Love simplifies the way we look at things. We learn how to keep our eyes on him in everything. John of the Cross asks a rhetorical question. He knows the answer to what it is that he is asking. He knows that Jesus is the one whom our hearts desire above all else. In his language: Jesus is our All. In him you will find all that you can desire. Will he show himself to you if you set out on this search? Yes, of course! Jesus loves you - pure and simple!
